September 27, 2026: Revisiting Childhood Memories Through Art

September 27, 2026: On a Sunday afternoon in Osaka, I had the opportunity to visit an art exhibition featuring many of the most moving and memorable scenes from famous boxing anime series that many men of my generation loved as children.

All the works on display were made of metal using a special coating technique and were presented as 2.5D Metal Canvas Art. I was impressed by the striking beauty of the artwork and its rich, substantial metallic texture.

No matter how much time has passed, the anime we were so passionate about as children still have the power to excite us and bring back those wonderful memories.

Since photography of the actual artwork was prohibited, I'm attaching a list of the exhibited works for anyone around my age who might be interested.

Ashita no Joe (Tomorrow’s Joe): The Spirit of a True Fighter

Ashita no Joe is one of Japan’s most iconic boxing anime series. It tells the story of Joe Yabuki, a rebellious young man who discovers his purpose in life through boxing.

Beyond the excitement of the matches, its true appeal lies in its portrayal of the human spirit: the courage to face adversity, the determination to push beyond one's limits, and the passion to devote oneself wholeheartedly to a goal.

Even decades later, Joe’s journey remains a powerful symbol of perseverance, pride, and the pursuit of one's own destiny.

When I was in elementary school, I was so inspired by this anime that I told my father I wanted to take up boxing. Instead of taking my younger brother and me to a boxing gym, he took us to a karate dojo, where we began learning karate.
